Steun ons en help Nederland vooruit

Information in English

Welcome! This is the website of D66 Sittard-Geleen, a local division of the social-liberal party Democrats 66 (D66). D66 aims at a more international profile of the city of Sittard-Geleen. In our manifesto we therefore underline the importance of cross-border cooperation in the Euregion Meuse-Rhine and the South Limburg Region.

In the European Parliament, D66 is part of the ALDE Group, the Alliance of Liberals and Democrats in Europe (including the Liberal Democrats in England, the FDP in Germany and the OpenVLD in Belgium). According to recent opinion polls, D66 is also one of the fastest growing political parties in the Netherlands. The national party leader, Alexander Pechtold, has been nominated as the best Dutch politician for several years.

Rob Vernhout and Jocelyn Engelhart are the elected representatives of D66 in the city council. Bert Kamphuis currently represents D66 in the municipal executive in Sittard-Geleen. His responsibilities include traffic/mobility/infrastructure, primary education, youth policy, integration, Euregional cooperation and international contacts.

D66 firmly believes in the potential of the Euregion Meuse-Rhine as a dynamic, attractive multi-lingual and prosperous region. The proximity of cities such as Maastricht, Roermond, Hasselt, Genk, Maaseik, Aachen, Cologne and Liege makes Sittard-Geleen a perfect starting point for visits in Dutch and Belgian Limburg, the province of Li├Ęge and the Aachen region.

Sittard-Geleen is a hub for industry, research and innovation. The Brightlands Chemelot Campus, the Chemelot Site, VDL Nedcar and the distribution centres at Holtum-Noord provide employment opportunities for the whole region and contribute to the Gross Domestic Product in The Netherlands. The railway station, the A2 and A76 motorways, the B56n and Maastricht-Aachen Airport provide easy access to national and international hotspots.

We rely on the ability of individual citizens and companies to shape their own careers and environment. D66 will focus on the following issues:

  • Better cooperation with other municipalities in our region, including Maastricht, Heerlen, Beek, Stein and Schinnen
  • Better cross-border cooperation with our Belgian and German neighbours
  • Recruitment and retention of students and talents
  • A sustainable future
  • Belief in the strengths and competencies of individual citizens, companies and institutions
  • An attractive and dynamic city centre (Sunday shopping, low parking fees, city promotion)
  • A multicultural society, tolerance, mutual respect and solidarity
  • An entrepreneur-friendly municipality
  • Support of the Brainport 2020 Agenda and Limburg Economic Development
  • A safe and welcoming city
  • Future-proof facilties and policies.

If you consider these items to be of great importance, we count on your support for D66!
